THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE ROLE OF PARENTS ON ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN RIAU ISLANDS UNIVERSITY STUDENTS, BATAM CITY AND IMPICATION FOR GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING
Abstract
Motivation is one of the important factors in education because it serves as a driving force for students to be active. The most important motivation for education is achievement motivation, where a person tends to struggle to achieve success or choose an activity that is oriented towards the goal of success or failure. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the education system to change from offline to online. The online system causes a decrease in student achievement motivation. The role of parents is very supportive in helping to increase student achievement motivation, especially in online learning. The purpose of this study was to find out how big the role of parents in student achievement motivation during the covid-19 pandemic. The sample in this study was 213 students consisting of 5 faculties, namely engineering, teaching and education, law, social and political science, and economics and business at the University of Riau Islands. The data collection technique used is a questionnaire of achievement motivation and the role of parents. Analysis of the data used is regression analysis. The results showed that in general the role of parents in students was in a fairly good category, while students' achievement motivation was in the low and very low categories because they had the same amount. From the results of the hypothesis analysis test, it was found that there was a relationship between the role of parents on achievement motivation in students at the Riau Archipelago University, Batam City where the contribution weight was 31,3% and 68,9% was influenced by other factors not examined in this study.
